awow wow wee wow we caught some piggy perch this week 🐽 it feels good to be back fishing together after a long, cold hiatus through February while it was snowing and icing. Here in the Chesapeake bay the yellow perch have been spawning up in the narrow creeks, and we have seen them splashing around on the shoreline. we finally had the opportunity to go out fishing this week and BOY it felt good to be back out on the water! Around our area in the Chesapeake bay the yellow perch are some of the first fish to become active again after the long winter. They begin spawning in early March, making them a good target species for people like us who are itching for spring to come faster. The water was high and cold from all the ice and snow that is still melting. We saw yellow perch spawning EVERYWHERE along the banks of where we were fishing and we ended up catching some phat mommas using one of our favorite methods: the float and fly If you followed us last year around this time you probably saw us using our hand-tied 1/32 oz flies to catch all kinds of species. It is a surprisingly efficient and fun way to catch fish, especially while using ultra light gear. just a few moments from our most recent uploaded on YouTube 🛶🎣 Our goal going out on this day was to film an episode about live vs. dead shrimp while also scoping out a new location. New locations are risky. Sometimes it works out and we find fish, other times we leave with an empty cooler and no footage. Either way, a bad day on the water is better than a good day at work, right? On this day we found tons of little trout. It was a lot of fun to find them but we were hoping for some gators! Not sure we will be going back, but who knows? At least now we can stop wondering if there are fish there! Did you happen to watch our latest episode?
